This free seminar, part of the BeTheChange week occurring at the medical school between the 11th and 17th of November aims to educate those currently training and working in the healthcare industry about the critical role of physical activity as a proactive healthcare tool.
With the evidence creating headlines worldwide, getting the population active enough to reap the rewards would not only benefit on an individual basis, but also economically, saving the healthcare system a considerable amount of money and helping to reduce the burden that currently exists on the NHS. As one of the most natural 'medicines' available, it is crucial that those in the healthcare industry are educated sufficiently on the topic.
With healthcare professionals currently dealing with the diseases caused and compounded by a largely sedentary western lifestyle, this seminar aims to teach aspiring and current doctors about the benefits of getting patients active, and how best to advise and implement the evidence.
Delivered by the School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences, this seminar is the first of its kind in the UK, and we hope that a successful seminar will lead to the content being implemented into the medical curriculum eventually. The seminar aims to teach delegates about the benefits and relevance of such a primal behaviour in the modern healthcare system, how the NHS could benefit from simply getting the population moving.
This seminar is open to anyone with an interest in healthcare, from university students to practicing clinicians. The Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine have also awarded the seminar 2 CPD points, and there will be a register to claim these. Attendance certificates will be given to delegates along with a chance to win some competition prizes, kindly donated by our official partners MPS, PurePharma and Fitness First.
